From a private collection

These pastels are part of a collection of about 200 studies from nature to  practice the color of light. I work quickly completing each in about 2 hours to catch the lighting before it changes. I use a black umbrella, mounted on a pitchfork, to avoid sky color on my toned paper.  My focus is on the appearance of the daylight, the impression of the whole.
